Tea for the Seoul



I consider myself a fairly healthy person -- nonsmoker, rarely drink more than one glass of wine, balanced eater (yes, that includes today's ridiculous quesadilla-n-fries lunch). I even gave up soda after learning about all of the negative effects it can have on your body.

But caffeine? Now that's a keeper.

Tea and coffee used to be consumed infrequently, mainly during weekly study or chat sessions at Starbucks. It was the social aspect I liked more than the beverages themselves. Hot chocolate was more my cup of, er, tea.

Natalie gave me this amazing African nectar tea from Mighty Leaf and it's one of my new favorites. Fruity and sweet, I was transported to a lush botanic garden with each sip. Can't wait to track more down in a few weeks.

But over the past several years, that's changed. Part of it was living in London, where my roommates and I made multiple cups of tea as part of the nightly ritual. After graduating university, I also began spending more time at coffee shops as an ideal place to apply for jobs, write, read and meet up with friends.

Now I make at least a cup of tea a day, sometimes one in the morning and one after dinner. It's comforting, relaxing and -- in the grand scheme of things -- not the worst thing you can put in your body. Coffee is still a coffee shop purchase but homemade iced coffee is on the docket once I'm back in the States.

Money = the downside of spending too much time at Starbucks and Caribou.


It would take 181.52 cups of Tazo Chai, 113.75 Starbucks tall lattes, 85.31 No-Doz tablets or 106.64 cans of Red Bull to finish me off!
