Modern art

After spending a couple of hours Sunday enjoying the fantastic Renoir exhibit at the Seoul Museum of Art, I wandered around the museum to see what else was tucked away in side galleries.

Okay, so here's the thing: I really like art, enjoying spending time at museums and am eager to learn about new ideas and artists.

But... modern art does nothing for me. Nada. Zilch. Rien. The low point of my otherwise great art history class two years ago was spending the day at London's Tate Modern. Cool building but come on, a crack in the floor as art?!

The modern pieces at SMOA ranged from beautiful

To eye-catching

To Matisse-esque

To creepy ("Dick in a Box"?)

To completely repulsive

It's a mistake to lump ALL modern art together, I admit. The Tate Modern has more than just cracks in the floor and features gorgeous works by Picasso, Matisse and Pollock.

But walking through SMOA -- just as in the Tate -- I felt a bit like this (you need to watch to the end to get the joke):

What kind of art do you like? My favorite style is impressionism.
