Goodbye sunshine and summertime, hello Korean winter

Mactan Island, Cebu, Philippines:

Yes, the time has come to say "goodbye" to the Philippines and "hello" to Korea. Overall, I'm so happy to have made this trip. Got a good tan (and some severe sunburn), soaked up some much-needed vitamin D, and was able to relax for a few days. It's always nice to have a break from work and this was no exception.

While I'm not exactly looking forward to getting back to Seoul, there are definite advantages there, including all the benefits that come from living in a 1st-world country.

We enjoyed a delicious local dinner of lapu-lapu last night before making a crucial discovery about the Philippines:

Despite all of Seoul's modern conveniences, Cebu grocery stores carry so many more American products than anywhere in Korea. Dr. Pepper? M&Ms? JIF peanut butter? Check. Check. Check. Don't worry, we stocked up. Although Cliff Bars were, sadly, nowhere to be found. My heart broke a little.

It's nearly 1 pm here and we're still figuring out a game plan for the day before heading to the airport. Neither one of us really wants to hit the beach due to a lethal combination of sunburn and sun fatigue, so we might check out some historical points of interest before grabbing some food and hitching a ride to el aeroport.

Goodbye, Philippines. You've been an education and at least held up your end of the bargain weather-wise. I'll miss you.
