Koh Samui, Thailand:
Sadly, Jeanette and I depart Koh Samui tomorrow to head back to Bangkok where we'll spend one more day before flying back to Seoul early Sunday morning. This entire vacation has been amazing and I'm sad for it to end, but determined to return to Thailand soon because there is still so much more to be explored.
We've spent most of our time in Samui motorbiking aimlessly around the island. Yesterday we checked out Big Buddha (very impressive!) before driving down the East coast and stopping at a few random points of interest. And by "random," I mean taking pictures of phallic rocks and sneaking into a really nice resort to claim beachside chairs at Chaweng Beach.
Today was another day in the same vein. Woke up late and lazed around on the beach for a while before heading down the West coast to climb the Hin Lad waterfall. It wasn't a very difficult hike -- about 2000 meters through the jungle -- but it's SO hot and humid here that we were both happy to see cool pools of water waiting at the top.
Sandy and Stephanie arrived in Samui Wednesday and stayed at our hotel last night before moving down to Chaweng today. It was so great to see both of them last night and then again this evening. Sandy will be back at SEV in the summer after she travels around Southeast Asia for a few months, but I was happy to hang out with her more here. We spent last night walking along the beach and found a few swings hanging from palm trees. Very fun.
By the way, sunsets here are stunning. The entire sky turns shades of vivid pink and purple, and the water appears almost orange where the sunlight falls. Simply gorgeous.
So that's it for now. Tomorrow we take a ferry, bus and overnight train to Bangkok. Should be an adventure...
