How was the Little Prince so wise?

"Les gens ont des étoiles qui ne sont pas les mêmes. Pour les uns, qui voyagent, les étoiles sont des guides. Pour d'autres elles ne sont rien que de petites lumières. Pour d'autres qui sont savants elles sont des problèmes. Pour mon businessman elles étaient de l'or. Mais toutes ces étoiles-là elles se taisent. Toi, tu auras des étoiles comme personne n'en a..."
-Le Petit Prince

"All men have the stars," he answered, "but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travellers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems. For my businessman, they were wealth. But all the stars are silent. You -- you alone -- will have the stars as no one else has them..."
-The Little Prince

I don't make New Year's resolutions because I never keep them, so what's the point? And really, January 1 was no different than December 31.

But I'm filled with such a sense of optimism for 2009. Maybe it's the fact that there are so many exciting things planned in the next 12 months -- trips to Thailand and Australia, more adventures in Korea, spending time with friends both new and old, and, of course, my eventual return to the USA.

I just have a feeling 2009 is going to be the best year of my life. I don't want to build it up too much because then it will never live up to the hype, but 2009 has a lot of promise so far.

Happy New Year to friends and family around the world, from New Zealanders already in the early morning hours of January 2nd, to Americans still in the dawning moments of January 1st.

  1. That's because you're not in America for most of it :)
